In 1992, a visitor reported seeing a group of heavily armed men, all stripped to the waist and wearing rough, woven clothes here. After a moment, the group suddenly vanished into thin air. A ghostly woman has also been reported standing alone on the shore of the lake.

Legend has it that major events across the island of Ireland are preceded by the appearance of a glowing ball of light, rolling across the lake.
