The original Cork Opera House opened in the mid-19th century and stood as the pride of the city for more than a century. That legacy came to a tragic end in 1955, when a devastating fire reduced the theatre to ruins. A modern Opera House was built on the same site in 1965 — yet many believe the spirit of the old building still lingers.

Today, the Opera House is a regular stop on local ghost tours. Staff and security have reported doors opening on their own, and on quiet nights, the eerie sound of a woman singing backstage in an otherwise empty building. Some say it is the voice of a performer lost in the blaze. Paranormal investigators have also documented sudden drops in temperature and faint strains of music drifting through the rehearsal rooms — as if echoes of long-forgotten performances still play on.
