On the Trim–Navan road (R161), motorists have reported seeing an apparition for more than 30 years. The figure is said to appear in front of two white gates leading to an old estate house. This stretch of the R161, just beyond the Bective turn-off, was the scene of two fatal accidents at the gates themselves, and local accounts suggest that between 15 and 20 people lost their lives on the older section of the road before it was partially bypassed.
