Following the sinking of the Lusitania on the 7th of May 1915, over 200 bodies were interred at the old graveyard in Cobh (then known as Queenstown). Obviously, many more souls were lost at sea. A funeral procession took place on the 10th of May to mark the tragic event and to attempt to bring peace to those who perished and closure to those they left behind.
In the early 1980s, a man was photographing the old graveyard when he heard multiple footsteps and low murmuring voices approaching. Expecting to see a funeral procession, he looked out at the road but there was nobody there. The sounds persisted, but he was alone. Multiple witnesses have had similar experiences here over the years.
