In the graveyard of Dundonald’s Church of Ireland stands the imposing Cleland Mausoleum—the tallest known tomb in Northern Ireland. Erected in 1842 by Eliza Cleland, the structure was built in memory of her husband, Samuel Cleland, who died tragically at the age of just 34 after being crushed by a collapsing wall. Samuel was laid to rest within the mausoleum alongside his parents, and the tomb has since become a striking feature of the cemetery.

Over the years, there have been eerie reports from visitors to the graveyard. Some claim to have heard disembodied whispers in the stillness surrounding the mausoleum—soft voices with no visible source, often described as circling the tomb before fading into silence.
