Clarke’s Pub occupies a historic mid-19th-century building in Drogheda’s town centre that has operated as a licensed premises since around the turn of the twentieth century. During the mid-1900s the pub became closely associated with publican Patrick Clarke, whose name remains linked with the establishment today.
Local tradition recounts that on the night of Clarke’s death, a shelf behind the bar reportedly fell to the floor without obvious cause, startling those present. Some patrons later interpreted the incident as a symbolic final gesture from the late publican – a small but memorable story that has since become part of the pub’s informal folklore.
Although no formal paranormal investigation is recorded, the anecdote survives in local newspaper features and oral retellings, contributing to Clarke’s reputation as one of Drogheda’s pubs with a lingering supernatural tale attached to its history.
