Located in the historic Christchurch area of Dublin, and formerly known as The Castle Inn, this popular pub and steakhouse was originally a grocery store. It was also the birth place of the poet, James Clarence Mangan (1803 – 1849).
Like many talented souls, Mangan’s life was marred by serious depression and this fueled his destructive additions to alcohol and opium. He lived in poverty and relative squalor, and sadly lost his life to cholera in 1849.
Mangan’s troubled ghost is believed to haunt this childhood home. Witnesses have reported a sudden change in temperature, an ominous feeling or a sense of melancholy when his spirit is about.
