Have you visited Boyle Abbey, and did you have an experience you could not explain? Click “Add Your Experience” and share your story.
Boyle Abbey was a prominent Cistercian monastery that was founded by monks from Mellifont Abbey in Louth in 1161. Over the course of several centuries, the site has been the scene of much turbulence, coming under attack from Cromwell’s armies and later serving as a garrison. Visitors can visit the restored gatehouse which now serves as a visitors centre and here they will learn more about the abbey’s history.
A couple of sources that I have references allude to the abbey being “haunted” but they do not offer any detail to substantiate this. If you have any information to add, please “Suggest An Amendment“.
If any users have shared their own paranormal experiences of Boyle Abbey, these will be shared here. To add your own, click “Add Your Experience” below.
All experiences are, of course, open to interpretation. While entries are reviewed before publication to ensure they are relevant to the focus of this website, specific details cannot always be verified. I reserve the right to decline submissions or to redact sensitive information where necessary.

Sometimes, reports of alleged hauntings are too vague to include without question. A site user – or another source – may have referenced paranormal activity at this location, but so far I’ve been unable to verify it. If you have additional information, you can suggest an amendment here.
