Blundell Castle, perched on a modest hill in the heart of Edenderry, dates back to the 1200s. It was originally constructed by the De Berminghams, a family of Norman descent.
In the 1500s, the Colley family took ownership of the castle. However, in May 1691, forces loyal to King James II attacked and razed the structure. Since then, the castle has remained abandoned and in ruins.
Legend has it that the ghost of Lady Blundell, also known as Sarah Colley, haunts the site. She passed away in 1701 and is said to sometimes appear on the castle grounds, roaming the lawn that surrounds the crumbling ruins.
