Often referred to as “the haunted lock” Bestfield Lock is located on the River Barrow. In years past, boatmen did not like staying on this stretch of the canal because they would often hear someone knocking on their boats in the dead of night. The odd experiences have been attributed to the ghost of a haulier who drowned here in the nineteenth century.
