Along the Old Dublin Road near Ballybrittas, not far from the landmark Delaney’s Roadhouse, a strange incident was recorded in May 2024.
At around 11.30pm, a passing driver swerved violently to avoid a woman in a long dress who appeared to step into the road. The sudden manoeuvre left him with whiplash, but when he stopped and searched, there was no sign of the figure he thought he had struck.
No other witnesses have come forward, and the account remains unverified. But it echoes the classic “roadside phantom” motif found all over Ireland — solitary figures glimpsed on quiet stretches of road, seen by motorists only to vanish without trace.
For now, the Lady in the Long Dress of Ballybrittas remains a rumour. Was it a trick of light, a near miss with a living passer-by, or a fleeting glimpse of something otherworldly? The truth is still waiting at the roadside.
