Have you visited Athassel Priory, and did you have an experience you could not explain? Click “Add Your Experience” and share your story.
Athassel Priory was founded in 1192 by the Norman aristocrat William de Burgh as an Augustinian abbey. At the time, this was the largest medieval priory in Ireland and had a population of 2,000 people living in it.
Growing to an area of four acres, Athassel would eventually become a centre of commerce and learning. The abbey was dissolved in 1537.
People visiting this site have reported an uneasy feeling of being watched and followed as they traverse the ruins.
