According to a local story, many years ago, a man was allegedly shot by a farmer when he was spotted on his land. The injured man attempted to leave the scene and dragged himself some distance before succumbing to his injuries near to where the Askea Lawns residential development now stands. The story continued that eleven of the sixty four properties on that estate made representations to the county council during the nineties, claiming that they had witnessed a dark figure in their homes. Local authorities are sceptical and tight lipped about such matters generally, and the report was even questioned by an individual who was familiar with the site. But why would anyone make this up? Did residents experience strange happenings and not report them, or was it an urban legend?!
