Built before 1822, Adelphi House in Corofin, County Clare, was home to a number of distinguished families for over 150 years.
In the 1940s and 1950s, it was owned by Colonel Brian Blood, a relative of the Bloods of Applevale. Believed to have spent time living in South America before returning to Ireland, Colonel Blood brought with him a certain grandeur. During his tenure, Adelphi House had multiple live-in servants and dedicated gardeners. A passionate fisherman, he often cast his line into nearby Lake Inchiquin—a favourite fishing spot just a short walk from the property.
In the 1980s, the house was purchased by John Murphy, a Kilnaboy native, and his wife Maureen, who operated it as a bed and breakfast for a brief period. However, the house eventually fell into disrepair and has now been unoccupied for over two decades.
Today, Adelphi House stands in ruins, and with those ruins comes a ghost story. Locals and explorers alike speak of the spirit of Molly Blood, said to haunt the abandoned property. Legend has it that Molly drowned in the nearby lake—sometimes referred to as Molly’s Lough. Her presence is described as friendly, though mysterious. Visitors have reported hearing her voice echoing from the empty kitchen, and some claim that personal belongings have vanished—only to reappear when politely requested.
