Abbey Street takes its name from the medieval St. Mary’s Cistercian Abbey. Legend tells of a monk named William Kedenor, who lost his sanity—whether due to excessive devotion or the influence of a malevolent force, no one knows. In a fit of madness, he murdered two fellow monks and was condemned to live out his days in chains. Even now, the sound of rattling chains is said to echo along Abbey Street, a chilling reminder of his tragic tale.
