118 Summerhill was a Georgian tenement within a short terrace (116–118). The row was cleared during 1960s redevelopment; the site is now part of the Sean O’Casey Avenue area.

In early 1966, demolition workers at No. 118 reported seeing a figure in a butcher’s jacket moving through the rooms. One of the witnesses, Joseph Byrne, saw the man in the basement and later described the encounter in an interview with the Evening Press.

I was wrestling with an old stove in the basement when I had a feeling someone was standing behind me, I looked around and saw nothing. After a while the same feeling crept over me and I had another look around. I saw a man, dressed in what appeared to be a butcher’s striped jacket, standing looking towards a window. I shouted to the others who were all working above me, but when they came down they couldn’t see it at all.

Another witness, William McGregor, reportedly fainted during his encounter. Similar reports had already been shared in relation to the adjoining houses at 116 and 117.

Some believed that the ghost was Patrick Conway, a butcher said to have died by suicide at that address in 1863, although this remains speculative.
