Now home to a men’s clothing store, this building in Sligo has a layered and chilling past. It once housed a Bank of Ireland branch, and before that, an ice-cream shop run by Italian immigrants Angelo and Rosa Di Lucia. Today, it’s said to be haunted by the restless spirit of Rosa, whose tragic murder over a century ago continues to echo through the walls—especially in the stillness of night, when reports of paranormal activity are most frequent.
In 1910, Rosa and Angelo Di Lucia moved from Italy to Sligo, where Angelo opened the ice-cream shop. But beneath the surface of their new life, dark intentions were brewing. Angelo began an illicit affair with a 17-year-old local girl named Jane Reynolds. Desperate to continue the relationship without hindrance, he devised a deadly plan.
On December 8th, 1912, Angelo went upstairs to the apartment above the shop and murdered Rosa, striking her with a hammer. The crime shocked the town. Both Angelo and Jane were sentenced to life in prison. To this day, locals believe Rosa’s spirit remains—unsettled and ever watchful.
