Waterford County Infirmary

Waterford County Infirmary
Waterford, Waterford, Ireland.

The old Waterford County and City Infirmary (originally known as a leper hospital) was constructed in 1896. Following is closure in 1987, the building was converted for residential use and was divided into self contained apartments.

While in operation as a hospital, there were reports that the building was haunted.

A former nurse who was responsible for setting up the operating room, continued to carry out her duties even after her own death. Staff would reportedly arrive to discover that the room had been set up and was ready for use, but none of them claimed to be responsible for it. Elsewhere, an entry on a public forum recounts how a former midwife would often respond to a call from an empty upstairs room and would acknowledge “a presence” in that room.
