Many thanks to L. Johnson for suggesting that I include The Bedford Hotel in this directory. I validate all suggestions and do my own research before publishing to see if there’s any more information I can share, so sometimes it can take a while for me to process them. Site users are (as always) welcome to suggest an amendment or to add their own experiences.

Sometimes, evidence of an alleged haunting is too vague for me to include it without query. A site user, or another source, may have referenced activity at this property or in the immediate vicinity, but as yet I have been unable to verify it. If you have had an experience at The Bedford Hotel or you can add further information, you can suggest an amendment here.

This historic building dates to 1904. It is located close to the City Hall in Belfast and was originally home to Scottish Mutual. In recent years, it opened as a themed hotel, dedicated to the legendary Belfast footballer, George Best. But the venture was unsuccessful and the hotel was forced to close. In 2023, it was announced that another company had purchased the site and work has since begun to develop it as a five star hotel – to be known as The Bedford Hotel.

In the 1800s, Belfast was home to several linen mills and one previously stood on this site. While I can find no specific examples of their claims, it is said that investigators in the area have recorded paranormal activity in the building.

Visitor Notes

The new hotel will open in 2025.
