RUMOUR

Sometimes, evidence of an alleged haunting is too vague for me to include it without query. A site user, or another source, may have referenced activity at this property or in the immediate vicinity, but as yet I have been unable to verify it. If you have had an experience at St Mary’s Church, New Ross or you can add further information, you can suggest an amendment here.

In January 2021, The Irish Mirror exclaimed “Irishwoman catches spooky snap of ‘trapped’ ghost outside ‘dungeon’ church in Co Wexford”. The photo they reference is intriguing, but some argue that the figure may have in fact been a human and the camera may have caught them at reduced shutter speed. On the other hand, a few mediums said that a woman’s spirit was indeed trapped there. One even revealed that there was a bishop there too, although he did not manifest in the photo.

The church dates to the early thirteenth century and there have been rumours of tunnels, dungeons and other mysteries – so a haunting is quite possible.

Did Karen really catch a spirit on her camera that night?

As an aside, what an incredible church!
