In 1999, O’Connell’s Pub in the village of Ardagh was the scene of a sudden haunting. During a renovation, when an old fireplace was demolished and an altar stone was unearthed under the hearth stone, strange things started to happen. Doors would open and close by themselves. Pictures and paintings taken down for renovation work were mysteriously found re-hung the following day.

A mystic by the name of Mary Malone visited this pub and felt the presence of three monks who were trying to escape. Malone prayed and asked the spirits to say the rosary, which resulted in the spirit of one monk remaining who was given the name Augustine.
