Many thanks to L. Johnson for suggesting this location.

Originally situated on the site of a flour mill, Matt the Miller’s has served as a bar and restaurant since the mid 20th century. However, the story of how this establishment came to be all dates back to the early 19th century.

Working at the mill, Matt was tired of grinding corn and eventually started brewing his own beer. However, he decided to quit the milling business and set up his own famous tavern. His beer proved to be popular with locals and visitors. Convicts were also given his famous beer before they were put on the scaffold to be hung.

The ghost of Matt is said to reside in the cellar bar of this tavern. His jovial laugh is heard and he can be seen twirling his moustache as he rests on a beer barrel. Locals believe he comes back to ensure that the rogues and revelers of Kilkenny are still being served good quality beer!
