Killeen Castle

Killeen Castle
Dunsany, Meath, Ireland.

There has been a castle on this site since the twelfth century, but the structure we see today is a much newer build, dating to the nineteenth century.

On the 16th of May, 1981, a devastating fire tore through the property and the sad shell was left abandoned for several years. As at June 2024, a restoration of the property is well underway and the owners hope that in time, 43 magnificent guest rooms will be opened inside the castle, but for now guests can enjoy a game of golf, a meal in one of the restaurants and then settle into one of the modern lodges beside the castle building.

Perhaps when the castle itself opens to guests, they will encounter the ghost of a former Earl of Fingall. He has spotted roaming the halls of the building, dressed in a blue coat and topped off with a powdered wig. The old library was also said to be active, with strange noises reported in here and fixtures and fittings that would move of their own accord.
