Friars Mill Road

Friars Mill Road
Mullingar, Westmeath, Ireland.

In October 1686, several alarmed witnesses alerted the Mullingar constabulary, reporting that they had seen an “army” crossing the River Brosna at Friars Mill. The witnesses were adamant that several hundred soldiers, some on horseback and many armed with muskets, were advancing towards the town, but officers could find no trace of any invasion and the event was eventually written off as “mass hysteria”.

However, just a few years later, Mullingar WAS invaded by the Williamites. Was this an example of a timeslip?
