Columb Barracks (originally known as Wellington Barracks) dates to 1814. It remained active until 2012 and various options are still be explored regarding its long term future.

In 1923, a soldier was trying to get to sleep in a room in block D, when he noticed a ghostly white figure approaching his bed. The figure got closer and closer until it was standing over the young soldier. He tried to scare it away by throwing bed clothes and other items, but these simply passed through it. He cried out for help and other members of his squad rushed to the room. As they turned on the light, the figure simply vanished before them. Other soldiers assigned to accommodation blocks at the site reported seeing ghostly figures and even of hearing voices from time to time.

The ghost of a guard is also said march back and forth between the main gate and the Fair Green.
