Many thanks to L. Johnson for suggesting that I include CBC Monkstown Park in this directory. In 1843, Charles Haliday, a banker, antiquary and social reformer, purchased Monkstown Park – the former home of Lord Ranelagh. Haliday subsequently demolished the original property and set about building a fine replacement – one which could accommodate his vast collection of books and antiquities. Following his death in 1866, the fine house became the Corrig School, and this operated until the 1920s. In 1950, the property was acquired by the Christian Brothers and it has operated as a private school ever since.

While the main school is now accommodated in modern buildings, the original house forms part of the administration block. I would expect that this is the section of the property that is reputedly haunted.

Boarders would sometimes report seeing the ghost of a lady in grey, passing through dormitories at night. Rather than brush their stories off, staff would reassure the nervous students that this was a former housekeeper who died there many years ago, and that she meant them no harm. But this benevolent soul is said to be in contrast to another, as yet unidentified one, who shoved two women to the floor one night while they were finishing up in the house kitchen.
