Castle Daly

Castle Daly
Castledaly, Galway, Ireland.

Castle Daly is a former great house in the Castledaly area of Galway. In the late 16th century, the original castle (then known as Corbally Castle) belonged to the Blakes – one of the well-known merchant families of the time. In 1829, it was purchased by the Daly family who made several amendments to the castle structure, transforming it into a fine mansion.

The castle is now in ruin and some might argue that the structure itself has a sinister appearance, with what would have been an arched window now resembling a sad face.

It would appear that the one-time owners of Castle Daly liked to party, as the sound of music and laughter has been heard echoing through the ruins of this once great house. But those that have stayed long enough, report that the chilling sounds of screams and distressed cries can be heard when the music and laughter come to an end.
