Aughnanure Castle

Aughnanure Castle
Oughterard, Galway, Ireland.

Aughnanure Castle on the shore of Lough Corrib, is a well preserved, six storey tower house dating to the late 15th century. The castle was fully restored in the 1960s and visitors can now explore features including a banqueting hall and watch tower.

Witnesses have reported hearing the sound of someone choking at the property, while the wail of a banshee was also heard here on one occasion. The ghost of a former gamekeeper has been spotted roaming the castle grounds, while the gruesome sight of a phantom head has been spotted rolling across the floor in one of the rooms.
