Sometimes, evidence of an alleged haunting is too vague for me to include it without query. A site user, or another source, may have referenced activity at this property or in the immediate vicinity, but as yet I have been unable to verify it. If you have had an experience at Annes Grove Gardens or you can add further information, you can suggest an amendment here.

This one is obviously a story, but it’s good and it’s short!

Legend has it that a wealthy landowner buried a pot of gold in this area many years ago and that he promised a young maid that he would share some it with her if she promised to look after it. She agreed and an oath was sworn. He then murdered the young woman. Word got out that there was treasure buried somewhere on the land, and of course some local men came to try and find it. They had been digging for an hour one night, when they came upon a flag stone. Thinking that they had struck it lucky, they became aware of the ghost of a young woman standing over them. One of the men was armed with a sword and attempted to keep the ghost at bay while they made their retreat, but the ghost followed him home. As he turned to unlock his door, he let his guard down and the ghost killed him on his own doorstep. It is said that others also met their maker while trying to locate the buried jar, with the maid staying true to her word.
