About Spirited Isle

Ireland's ghost stories have been passed down through generations, whispered at firesides and shared between neighbours.

Spirited Isle exists to make sure they aren't lost.

My name is Jonathan. I launched this site in March 2021 - during one of Ireland's Covid lockdowns. What began as a personal project born out of lifelong curiosity has grown into something I could never have anticipated.

The idea was straightforward: build the most comprehensive directory of haunted and paranormal locations across all 32 counties of Ireland. Not just the famous castles and well-worn ghost tour stops, but the forgotten ones - the rural crossroads, the deconsecrated churches, the unremarkable buildings hiding remarkable histories. Places people could actually visit. Stories people could actually follow up on.

Five years later, Spirited Isle now lists over 1,000 individual locations across the island, making it one of the largest databases of Irish paranormal and folkloric sites anywhere online.

Research

Every location on this site is treated with the same standard - scepticism first, story second.

Where possible, accounts are cross-referenced against historical records, local sources and published material. When user submissions come in - and many of my best entries do - they are reviewed and verified where possible. If a story can't be substantiated, I say so. If a more rational explanation exists, I acknowledge it.

You'll notice throughout the site that I'm willing to question the legend as well as tell it. That's intentional.

Share Your Story

If you've had an experience at a location listed here - or know of a place I haven't covered yet - I want to hear from you. User submissions have contributed some of the most compelling entries in the database.
